Here’s a collection of shots (that didn’t make the mag) from a recent fashion shoot for Surfgirl. Shot on various film and digital formats.

If you want to see the final selection - you’ll have to buy the magazine which will be out in August.

myCornwall TV filmed the shoot. It will be on their website soon.

The model, Abi Glencross, is 18 and from Cornwall. She hasn’t modelled before. She won the chance to star in this shoot by entering the Etnies search for a model competition. Well done Abi – you nailed it!!

Tech: I can’t remember which 35mm film I used, but I know the 120 was Kodak Portra 400 NC.

It’s not all Bikini babes you know…

Here’s a quick peek at yesterdays flower editorial shoot, which will be featuring in the next issue of Wed Magazine. The issue also includes more of my work. Namely the Bridesmaid fashion feature (which has a behind the scenes video on it’s way, thanks to memoiriesonfilm), and a real wedding double page spread from the forthcoming (to this blog) wedding of Lauren and David, captured at Trevenna, on the 15th of May.

Tech talk:

Decided to video and shoot it simultaneously through the monitor. It was the first time I have worked in this way. Worked out great thanks to a good team, good tunes, sweets, and coffee.

Gear: 5dII armed with the Magic Lantern firmware, Small HD monitor, Rhode Stereo Mic, Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the Cinevate DSLR rig + follow focus, Sachtler DV6 tripod. Lit using a custom made ring light.

If you were wondering who shot the Beachbeat ad, and came up with the copy. Wonder no longer… Hands up, it was me. I love it when a surf brand use something other than aspirational surf action image to sell their wares. One of my favourite surf ads was by Oxbow. It had Laird ‘I own the Sea and I am brave’ Hamilton, standing in-front of a Dam holding a surfboard with a dynamite plunger in his hand… ready to blow the dam and ride the massive torrent. Wowsers.

As soon as the deviant/pro surfer/Beachbeat surfboard technician, Shaun ‘Skippy’ Skilton heard his employers were using this portrait in an ad, he shaved his hair off to avoid recognition. Not sure why, this is a claimer if ever I’ve seen one.

I’ve been asked to shoot the fashion editorial for the next four issues of Surf Girl Magazine.

Here’s a few behind the scenes snap shots from yesterday’s photoshoot. You can see the results in print in the next issue of Surf Girl, out early April.

Special thanks to Rosie, from Rosie and the Goldbug, for agreeing to model for us, and a massive ‘you the man’ to Chris Ryan for letting us take over his cabin for the day.

I’m off to Barbados on the 3rd of March to photograph the summer fashion feature!
